Veneers have a fascinating history, originating in Hollywood back in the 1930s.

Once used solely to improve the look of actors’ smiles on screen, veneers are now a durable solution to issues such as discoloration, cracked, chipped and misshapen teeth and are considered one of the great aesthetic solutions to these issues. Here at Westbridge Dental Practice, we believe crafting veneers is an art and we will create your unique veneers in the image of your smile.

What should I expect when getting a veneer?

After an initial examination and discussion with you about your expectations of treatment, we will prepare your tooth to accommodate the custom veneers. This involves etching (carefully removing) a very small amount of tooth enamel to make sure that when the veneer is fitted, it’s the same thickness as your existing teeth.

We’ll also take an impression of your mouth so that when the dental laboratory creates your veneer, they have precise measurements allowing them to make a perfectly fitting restoration. Your brand-new veneer will also be made to match your natural tooth shade if required, or it can be whiter and brighter for a sparkling white smile

When we receive the veneer back from the dental lab, we’ll invite you for an appointment to have it fitted. During this appointment, a strong adhesive is applied to the back of the veneer and bonded to the tooth in question. Any small necessary adjustments are made during this appointment.

What makes veneers so great?

  • Easy to maintain: you can care for your veneers like you would your existing teeth. This means brushing twice a day and flossing once a day.
  • Outstanding aesthetic result: veneers are considered as a highly aesthetic restoration, as they’re made from materials like porcelain, which bear a close resemblance to tooth enamel.
  • Stain-resistant: veneers are stain resistant (but this doesn’t mean you should stop looking after your smile)!
  • Durable: today’s veneers can last for between 10-15 years, if properly looked after.
  • Straightforward treatment: veneers require very little preparation – we can complete the whole process in as little as two appointments.
